Former CEO of the CRC for Sheep Industry Innovation awarded Order of Australia

Congratulations to former chief executive officer of the Cooperative Research Centre for Sheep Industry Innovation (Sheep CRC)  who has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2021. Emeritus Professor James Baber Rowe of Armidale, NSW, who is known as a ‘cooperation champion’ received the award for service to science as a researcher and educator.

Emeritus Professor Rowe served as CEO of the Sheep CRC from 2000 to 2019, and professor of animal science at the University of New England from 1994 to 2020.

Prior to that he worked with the Western Australian Department of Agriculture as a manager of Cattle Industry Research and Development and as a sheep and wool research officer, and previously served as a research scientist with ICI Pharmaceuticals in Cheshire in the United Kingdom.

After coming to Australia from Johannesburg, South Africa in 1970 to study rural science at the University of New England under ag science system pioneer Bill McClymont, Mr Rowe has worked in a variety of roles both here and overseas throughout his long career, and since his retirement from academia in 2020.
