Seven Cooperative Research Centre consortiums unwrapped an early Christmas present today as Senator Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research announced the results of the 12 CRC Selection Round.

“This is of course a wonderful result for those who have worked so hard on compiling these applications.  It has been a long and exhaustive process, but for these seven it has certainly been worth all the effort” said Michael Hartmann, CEO of the Cooperative Research Centres Association.

“We welcome the new CRCs, and also congratulate the existing CRCs which have been successful in their applications for extension funding.”

“Meanwhile we must issue our commiserations to those applicants that have been unsuccessful either at Stage 1 or 2 of the process.  It is a very competitive process, and as with all competitions there must be losers as well as winners.  I know for a fact that some excellent initiatives have missed out on this occasion and I certainly hope that they will consider submitting a new application in next year’s Round 13.”

The CRC program was established in 1991 by the Hawke Labor Government.  Cooperative Research Centres unite universities, industry and government agencies in research on topics ranging from bush tomatoes to jet aircraft.
